Midshipmen win 31-13 over Black Nights in 125th annual Army-Navy game

The Army-Navy Football Game was held at Northwest Stadium, the home of the Washington Commanders on Saturday.

Thousands of fans showed up early for the 125th annual match, which hasn’t been hosted in the DMV since 2011 when the Navy Midshipmen also defeated the Black Knights.

Leading up to the game, there was lots of anticipation, with Army winning the AAC Championship game last week. Navy has had a strong season as well.

Speaking with fans, they say that’s what makes this game so special – it’s the camaraderie, no matter who you cheered for today.

Carlos Falcon is from St. Mary’s County.

"Not the way we wanted, but you know what? It’s the Army-Navy game. Who knows what will happen? It’s been a terrific season for Army. I’m a class of 76. Go, Army," Falcon said. "I have also supported the Navy. I have worked in joint situations. I retired as a Navy civil servant. It’s one big circle of acquisition."

Patrick Considine flew from Jordan for the game.

"It’s always like you come in, you see all of your classmates. This guy, I graduated with him 20 years ago, so it’s good to see people,’ Considine.

For Jack and Tammy Trybus, the game is about more than football.

"It’s just very emotional," Tammy Trybus said.

The couple’s two sons attended the Naval Academy.

"It’s about everything they do, what they’re going to give to this country," Jack Trybus said.

The game Saturday drew thousands to Landover, including President-elect Donald Trump, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and Pentagon pick Pete Hegseth.

Daniel Penny, a military veteran who was acquitted of criminally negligent homicide this week in the chokehold death of an agitated subway rider in New York, also attended. He was invited by Vance, who accused prosecutors of trying to "ruin" Penny’s life by charging the Marine veteran in the death of Jordan Neely in 2023.

Army was ranked 19th in The Associated Press Top 25 after beating Tulane on Dec. 6 to win the American Athletic Conference — the first league title of any kind in the team’s 134-year history. Navy was ranked earlier this season after starting with six straight victories

Navy will face Oklahoma in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas on December 27.
