There are so many fun things to do when visiting ANACOSTIA it's hard to keep count! Here are THE 5 MUST STOPS that you just can't miss when taking your own ZIP TRIP!
THE MADISON HOUSE: It's really a house of healing. This Zen-like retreat is a spiritual health and wellness center located on U Street in Anacostia. designed to de-stress and relax weary minds and bodies. Some of the special offerings include psychic readings, energy clearing, and naked yoga!
ENTERPRISES: Talk about a turnaround! These former gang members have gone from fighting in the streets to building a positive business right in the heart of Anacostia. The founding members say they support LGBTQ youth of the city, because they themselves were victims of homophobia and abuse. Now, they design and sell trendy clothing with positive messages in support of the community they came from.
ANACOSTIA COMMUNITY MUSEUM: This Smithsonian museum is of, for, and by the people! One of the current exhibits A Right To The City and takes a historical look at several communities including Adams Morgan, Shaw, Southwest, and Anacostia. Their hope is to create a more tolerant and unified community.
ANACOSTIA PARK: The expansive urban oasis offers visitors a break from the busy city. there are 3.5 miles of paved trail, a relaxing river, and an updated roller skating pavilion. And guess who's turning 100 this year? Anacostia Park - and there will be lots of centennial events for guests to enjoy during the celebration.
THE ANACOSTIA ARTS CENTER: This center is considered the life blood of the community. It's dedicated to creating a home for small businesses, artists, and cultural organizations. Opened in 2013, their aim is to revitalize Anacostia's economy. There are two boutiques, a bookstore, galleries, and a theater. and after you are finished shopping there's a comfortable lounge area where you can relax with a good book or just enjoy your creative Zen.
