FOX 5's Gwen Tolbart reports major flooding in Old Town Alexandria with gusty winds. Drivers were advised to "turn around, don't drown" as heavy rain continued into Tuesday evening.

As a result, several road closures were in effect in Alexandria as parts of King Street are still closed due to flooding.

A flood warning was issued for several areas across the D.C. region until 11 p.m. Tuesday evening. The warning directly impacted flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. The National Weather Service says tidal flooding along the Potomac River is expected to continue and will reach approximately 5 feet by 6 a.m Wednesday.

FOX 5 spoke to a guy who came all the way from Southern Maryland Tuesday to celebrate his birthday in Alexandria. He said that this would be a celebration to remember and not in the greatest way either, after his car got flooded.

"When I showed up and when I parked down there, the rain had let up," said Dillon Wise, whose car got flooded in Old Town Alexandria. "The water wasn’t even within a foot. I mean there were no indications of flooding when I parked down there and, unfortunately, while we were inside grabbing lunch celebrating my birthday, things changed."
