80-year-old man murders neighbor over property dispute, police say

SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. - Police have arrested an 80-year-old man they say shot and killed a neighbor after a property dispute in Spotsylvania County.

Investigators say Larry Keith Johnston and his 65-year-old neighbor were involved in an ongoing feud over property boundaries near the area of the 7200 block of Young Lane.

Officers say Johnston shot the neighbor in his driveway on Sunday. The neighborhood had a landscaping crew on scene performing lawn maintenance when the incident occurred.

Johnston was located at his neighbor's residence. He was arrested and has been charged with first degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony after.

Authorities say they encourage citizens to remove themselves any situation where someone is verbally or physically aggressive and to call police.
