70-year-old man dies at Burke Lake after canoe tips

FAIRFAX, Va. - A man died after a canoe tipped over at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax County on Friday, according to authorities.

Fairfax County police said 70-year-old James Peith of Clifton, Virginia was in a canoe with two other people when it overturned at about 2:20 p.m.

A child and an adult were rescued by staff on the lake but Peith could not be found.

Helicopters and boats searched for Peith for several hours before his body was found using sonar equipment at about 6 p.m.
