65-year-old Old Town Alexandria murder victim honored by friends with bike ride
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A businessman murdered a week ago in Old Town Alexandria was remembered and honored by his community Friday night.
Brad Jackson was beloved as his friends gathered at Window Universe along King Street, the business where he was found killed. Flowers along with his picture were placed at the door of the business.
Friends said the slain 65-year-old always rode his bike so they could not think of a better way to honor him except with a symbolic bike ride through Old Town Alexandria.
The group took off from Big Wheel Bikes on Prince Street and made their way to Window Universe. They rode along with an empty bike with Jackson's picture attached to the front.
"The kindest man. Gentle," said Bennett Moore. "He would go out of his way and do anything for you. He was like a second father to my son."
"It's just a hole in our hearts," said Elsa Riveros. "It's just pain. He should be here with us and this is a little something to say you will be with us all the time. We will love you forever."
Jackson leaves behind a son in his 20s.
Police arrested 34-year-old Pankaj Bhasin for Jackson's murder. Investigators have not revealed if the suspect knew Jackson or a motive for the crime.
Bhasin is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 14.
