6 displaced after fire destroys home in Northwest DC

Six people were displaced following a house fire in Northwest D.C. Tuesday afternoon. 

Firefighters responded to a two-story semi-detached home in the 5400 block 9th Street, NW, around 1 p.m. where they found both floors engulfed in fire at the rear of the building.

Crews immediately began working to knock down the fire as there was a severe threat to adjacent homes.

D.C. Fire and EMS said as they were working, flying embers ignited an adjacent rooftop and the extreme heat melted siding on an adjacent home.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported but fire officials say the back of house is a total loss.

The six people who were displaced as being helped by the Red Cross. 

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
