Authorities responded to a serious crash in Rockville that resulted in several people being trapped in their car, officials say.

The two-vehicle collision happened at around 7 p.m. Friday on Norbeck Road.

Montgomery County police say a Ford Focus was traveling westbound on Norbeck Road when it crashed into a Ford E-150 van that was making a left turn from Westbury Road. The Ford then crashed into a brick signage structure on the side of the road.

Officials say that there were a total of five people in the Ford Focus, which included a juvenile female driver, a woman in the passenger seat and three other juvenile girls in the back seats. They all had to be extricated from their vehicle after being trapped, and were transported to local hospitals with critical injuries.

The adult male driver of the van was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police say.

Several lanes on Norbeck Road between Bel Pre Road and Muncaster Mill Road were blocked off following the collision.

Police continue to investigate the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
