4 DC centenarians celebrated

Four Washington, D.C. women were recognized Sunday for reaching incredible milestones.

Mrs. Eleanor Crockett, Mrs. Emma Butler, Mrs. Alice Lynch and Mrs. Bessie Moore were all celebrated at The First Baptist Church of Deanwood (FBCD) in Ward 7 for reaching birthdays over 100 years.

Crockett is 102-years-old, the other three women are each 100-years-old. With the exception of Moore, who is in a nursing facility, all the women remain active.

"I don't know about anything special in the water," said the Reverend Dr. Ronald K. Miner, Sr., Pastor of The FBCD in a press release, "but I do believe that the Lord is blessing this house and, in the case of the women we are honoring, that blessing is reflected in their longevity."

Crockett said she considers her age to be a gift.

"I feel very blessed and I am amazed that [God has] given me such good health and a sound mind for so long," she said.
