300 residents displaced after fire damages high-rise apartment building Montgomery County

Officials say 300 residents of a high-rise apartment building have been displaced after a devastating fire Tuesday morning in Montgomery County.

The fire, which grew quickly to 3-alarms, was reported around 5:30 a.m. at the Waterford Apartments on University Boulevard in the Kensignton area.

Pete Piringer, chief spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, says the fire was first spotted on the 9th floor of the building. Crews evacuated residents from the balconies as the fire and smoke spread across the complex. Piringer said about 100 firefighters were on the scene.

Piringer said two civilians and one firefighter were injured in the blaze. Roads around the apartment complex were closed for several hours following the fire.

The cause has yet to be determined.
