PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. - About 20 firefighters in 13 Prince George’s County departments have been diagnosed with scabies, health department officials confirmed on Monday.
They say the outbreak is under control after more than 200 firefighters were tested.
Scabies is a pimply rash caused by microscopic mites.
The condition is treated by cleaning household products and washing sheets in hot water.
They say everyone in the family of the person who has been diagnosed should be treated at the same time.
Officials believe the number of infected people is likely to increase, and they’re encouraging them to seek treatment.
