Two people stabbed at Metro Center

A man and woman were both stabbed at Metro Center station in D.C. during a busy rush hour commute. FOX 5's Lindsay Watts reports live inside the station with the latest.

A man is in critical condition after a double stabbing Tuesday at Metro Center on the 1200 block of G Street NW.

A WMATA spokesman said a man and woman were injured "after an apparent verbal confrontation between the victims and the suspect on the platform."

No arrests have been made or suspects identified.

D.C. police said it happened at 3:20 p.m. on the red line platform.

Investigators said the man was stabbed in the torso and when officers arrived at the station, he was found unconscious and not breathing.

The female victim had a puncture wound that was not life-threatening according to WMATA Spokesman Ian Jannetta. He said both victims were hospitalized.

The red line Glenmont platform was shut down for almost three hours for the investigation.

T.J. Smith, the former spokesperson for Baltimore City Police, was riding a train to Metro Station with his 10-year-old son when the stabbing occurred.

"(The train) slowly made its way into Metro Center, and then I saw an alert on my phone on the Citizen App that said it was a stabbing at Metro Center," Smith said. "I’m like, ‘Wow that’s where we’re going.’ And I get there, and I see all the people that are on the one side of the track where they’re single tracking and the other side is shut down. So it was obvious that something had occurred, obviously the stabbing, but Metro did a great job because a lot happened quickly."

Smith said it was unnerving to see, but everything was handled as well as it could’ve been. Police said the suspect is a Black man wearing black shoes, a dark blue short sleeve shirt, blue jeans and last seen carrying a green bag.

As of Tuesday night, Metro Transit Police had not released an image of the suspect.

Two people stabbed at Metro Center

Police are searching for a stabbing suspect that injured a man and woman Tuesday afternoon at Metro Center in D.C. FOX 5's Lindsay Watts reports from the scene of the crime.

Red Line trains were single tracking between Judiciary Square and Farragut North stations, and bypassing Metro Center due to the police investigation. However, Metro officials said Glenmont bound trains are no longer bypassing Metro Center.
