Two people were found dead inside a McLean home Friday afternoon, according to authorities.

Fairfax County police said they received a call at about 2 p.m. to conduct a welfare check in the 6700 block of Dean Drive.

After several unsuccessful attempts to make contact with residents inside the home, officers forced their way into the home and found the bodies of two adult females, officials stated.

Detectives told FOX 5 at this time they were investigating the scene as a possible murder-suicide and said there didn't appear to be a threat to the public.

"It's surreal. You don't really expect things like this to happen on your street, especially when this is an area known for being like a bubble from the rest of the world and when things like this happen you're just not really prepared for it," neighbor Jackson Payne told FOX 5. "It's shocking and it really hurts."

On Saturday morning, Fairfax County police released the names of those involved. They say, 23 year old Helen Lorena Hargan shot her mother, 63 year old Pamela Denise Hansen Hargan, and then shot herself.

Anyone with information that could aid detectives in their investigation was urged to call Crime Solvers (866) 411-8477.
