2 dead after car crashes into Alexandria home

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Police say two men have died after a car slammed into a house in Alexandria.

Antonio A. Badie, 28, of Alexandria, was driving a 2008 Honda at a high rate of speed when he veered away from oncoming traffic, lost control and struck a curb, according to police. The vehicle then traveled over a curb, through a lawn and struck trees and a metal fence before coming to rest in the dining room of 6801 Smithway Drive.

"The car involved in the accident was coming down the hill and it seems he was speeding, going about 90 miles per hour," said Yesenia Henriquez, who witnessed the crash. "As he was coming down the hill, he lost control the car and started rolling down the hill and he went into one of the houses' backyard, knocked over the fire hydrant and ended up in the neighbor's house through the kitchen window."

The passenger, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene. Badie was transported to Mount Vernon Hospital where he was also pronounced dead. Police say the vehicle involved was reported stolen from Falls Church on October 18.

The homeowners were at church at the time of the crash. Neighbors say this is the third time this year that a car has hit the home.

Virginia's Department of Transportation says 9400 cars use this road every day, and their records show four crashes in five years. They say they will examine the road.

The crash is currently under investigation. Police say a gun and marijuana were found inside the vehicle and that an autopsy and toxicological tests will determine if the driver was impaired at the time of the crash.
