Teen pedestrian hit, killed in Fairfax County

Police say a 17-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed Wednesday morning while crossing the street in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. FOX 5's Tisha Lewis has the latest on the investigation into the tragedy, and the calls for changes being made in the aftermath.

A 17-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed Wednesday morning in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County, according to police.

Fairfax County Police say the girl who has been identified as Lesly Marisol Diaz-Bonilla was hit along Columbia Pike in the area of Barcroft View Terrace and Tyler Street around 8:57 a.m.

Investigators say Diaz-Bonilla was trying to cross Columbia Pike when a car driving southbound on the road struck her. The teen was in the crosswalk at the time of the collision.

Juvenile pedestrian killed while crossing street in Falls Church

Fairfax County Police are investigating after a juvenile pedestrian was struck and killed Wednesday morning in the Falls Church area.

According to police, the collision threw Diaz-Bonilla's body 20 to 30 feet away from the scene of the impact.

First responders at the scene immediately provided life-saving efforts to the victim, but they succumbed to their injuries and were later pronounced dead.

According to investigators, the driver remained on the scene after the crash. They have not said what led up to the collision or if any charges will be filed.

Diaz-Bonilla's family said she attended Justice High School in Falls Church, and one day hoped to become a nurse. A relative created a GoFundMe page for support during this difficult time. 

The crash remains under investigation.
