CRESWELL, Md. (AP) - Police in Maryland say they've recovered the body of a man whose car was washed off a bridge by recent flooding. But they're still looking for a woman who was swept away as she tried to help him.
Maryland State Police said in a statement Saturday afternoon that they recovered the body of 67-year-old Daniel Samis of Abingdon, Maryland.
High water from heavy rains had disabled Samis' sedan on Friday on a bridge near Creswell, which is northeast of Baltimore. A passing truck stopped, and a man and a woman got out with a rope to try to rescue the stranded driver.
The woman fell and was swept away by the rushing water. The disabled vehicle went off the bridge a short while later. The woman, identified Sunday as 34-year-old Melissa Lehew, remains missing.
Maryland State Police says they have suspended their search for Saturday and will resume Sunday morning.
