1 dead, 2 hurt in early morning crash in Fairfax County

Authorities say one person is dead, and two others have been hospitalized after an early morning crash Friday in Fairfax County.

Police have identified the deceased driver as 37-year-old Christina Hamilton.

Around 1:10 a.m. Friday, officers from the Fairfax County Police Department responded to the two-vehicle crash on Arlington Boulevard and Patrick Henry Drive in Falls Church.

Detectives believe the collision occurred after Hamilton who was driving a 2018 Honda Civic, attempted to make an "abrupt" U-turn while traveling eastbound on Arlington Boulevard. The investigation determined she was struck by the driver of a 2016 Honda Accord.

Hamilton, the driver of the Accord and a passenger they rode with, each had to be taken to the hospital. Hamilton, however, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

At this time, detectives don't believe speed and alcohol were a factor for the driver of the Accord.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Arlington Boulevard was closed between Olin Drive and Patrick Henry Drive for several hours.
