WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - Maryland and Virginia both rank in the top ten in the latest U.S. News and World Reports Best State Rankings.
The list looks at each state in the nation and ranks them according to performance factors in several categories including health care, education, infrastructure, safety, economy and local government. The rankings also take into account the opportunity each state affords its residents.
Maryland came in number six in the rankings while Virginia came in number seven.
The report says health care and education factor in the most when deciding on a state's ranking. Economy, infrastructure and opportunity follow.
The state of Washington ranked number one on the list followed by New Hampshire, Minnesota, Utah and Vermont.
