Members of University of Maryland staff placed on leave in death investigation of Jordan McNair
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Members of the University of Maryland athletic staff have been placed on leave in connection with the death investigation of a football player, according to the school.
A university spokesperson said following the death of Jordan McNair in June, the school called for an external review of the procedures and protocols surrounding athletes' health and safety.
Pending the outcome of the review, the university announced it had placed members of the athletic staff on administrative leave, but did not identify the members.
"We will be able to speak in greater detail when the review is complete and shared with the public. Our thoughts remain with Jordan McNair's family, friends and teammates," the university said in part of its written statement.
The foundation honoring the 19-year-old said his death was caused by heatstroke during an organized team workout at the end of May. McNair died two weeks later after he was hospitalized.
