16-year-old girl shot near Gallaudet University in Northeast D.C., officials say

WASHINGTON - UPDATE: The 16-year-old girl, identified as Taiyania Thompson, from Northeast D.C. has died from her injuries.

Authorities swarmed Northeast D.C. after a 16-year-old girl was shot near Gallaudet University on Thursday.

The Metropolitan Police Department said the teen was shot inside an apartment in the 1000 block of Mt. Olivet Road, Northeast at about 3:20 p.m.

According to officials, the teen was unconscious and not breathing when crews arrived at the scene.

Authorities said the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigators were speaking with a person of interest who was walking nearby the scene when officers arrived, according to police.
