Woman, child struck by Metrobus in Northwest DC

A woman and a young girl were struck by a Metrobus in Northwest D.C. Wednesday afternoon, officials say.

According to D.C. Fire and EMS, the victims were struck at Broad Branch Road and McKinley Street in the Chevy Chase neighborhood just before 3:30 p.m.

The woman had to be rescued after she was trapped under the bus, fire officials say.

"She was partially underneath the bus and we had to use extraction techniques to safely remove her," said Vito Maggiolo of D.C. Fire and EMS.

Both victims were transported to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Broad Branch Road was closed following the incident, police say. McKinley Street was also shut down, but has since reopened.
