Video captures Prince George's County police fatally shooting accused cop killer

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. - Dramatic video shows the moments a man accused of killing a Prince George's County police officer was shot to death by authorities on Wednesday.

The video was captured just before 11 a.m. on the busy Route 210 in Fort Washington. It shows officers running through traffic and beginning to open fire.

The suspect, 37-year-old Glenn Tyndell, was shot to death by Prince George's County police officers Luke Allen and Channing Reed, according to officials.

Tyndell was accused of shooting and killing Prince George's County Cpl. Mujahid Ramzziddin outside a home on Chadsey Lane in Brandywine.

Ramzziddin, who was off-duty at the time, was "stepping in to protect a woman threatened in a domestic situation," according to officials.

Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski III said the incident began on Tuesday when Ramzziddin was approached by a woman who noticed in his marked patrol car parked in his neighborhood. According to Stawinski, the woman had asked to discuss a protective order she had filed against her estranged husband, Tyndell, and her need to retrieve items from the home on Wednesday.

Stawinski said Ramzziddin saw the woman Wednesday morning and asked if she was OK.

"She had some concerns. He offered to go in and allay those concerns," Stawinski said. "He is outside with her after they have looked into her concerns within the home. When he is initially confronted, there is an initial volley of shots. There is a pause. There are two more shots."

The chief said he'd watched video from a home security camera of the shooting and knows Ramzziddin called for backup on his police radio when he saw Tyndell with the shotgun.

Stawinski said Tyndell took Ramzziddin's gun following the shooting, fled the scene and later led officers on a pursuit. The female victim was not injured during the incident, according to officials.

Traveling into nearby Charles County and back along Route 210, authorities said they blocked off the road and Tyndell was caught in traffic. Tyndell attempted to run into a wooded area and that's where there was a gun battle and he was ultimately killed.

"Our officers, deputies from Charles County and the Prince George's County Sheriff's officers who intervened are to be credited because it is very likely based on the behavior that has been described to me at that second confrontation that other lives could have been lost," Stawinski said.

Officers Allen and Reed were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
