Two dead, three hospitalized after I-95 crash
SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (FOX 5 DC) - Two men are dead and three others are in the hospital after a single-car crash on Interstate 95.
Police say it happened around 1:20 p.m. Friday at the 123.7 mile marker on I-95 in Spotsylvania County, Va.
The 2004 Ford Explorer was going northbound when it ran off the right shoulder, struck the guardrail and rolled over several times before landing on the left shoulder.
Two passengers in the vehicle: 47-year-old Frederick L. Thomas and 45-year-old Robert W. Rutherford of Hedgesville, West Virginia, were ejected from the truck and died at the scene. Police say they were not wearing seat belts.
The driver, 24-year-old Jahvante L. Winnagle of West Virginia, went to Mary Washington Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He also wasn't wearing a seat belt.
A man and a boy who did wear seat belts went to Mary Washington Hospital with minor injuries.
Police say charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation. The crash closed all lanes of northbound I-95 on Friday afternoon.
