Suspect arrested in Rockville rape case, Montgomery County police say

A suspect has been arrested after a woman was raped in a wooded area in Montgomery County, police say.

FOX 5's Evan Lambert reports that the suspect has not been officially charged at this time.

Officials say the victim had come from the Shady Grove Metro station and was walking southbound on Frederick Road (Route 355) in the area of West Gude Drive in Rockville at around 12:11 a.m. Wednesday when she was approached by a man.

"She was walking on the sidewalk. The suspect confronted her, physically assaulted her on the sidewalk and then pulled her into the bushes where he sexually assaulted her," said Montgomery County Police Officer Rick Goodale. "It's always best to walk with a buddy or in a group. Keep a cellphone on you - charged in case you need to make emergency phone call, and be aware of your surroundings."

The woman was able to break free and ran to a nearby office building where she sought help from a security guard. Police were then called.

She was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for her injuries, police say.
