Suspect in carjacking of vehicle used in murder of 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson arrested
WASHINGTON - A man who carjacked a vehicle that was used in the murder of 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson has been arrested, according to officials.
Detectives believe 21-year-old Kevin Eugene Jones took the 2008 Infiniti G35 at gunpoint outside a home on Fontana Drive in Lanham, Maryland.
Court records said the carjacking happened 16 days before four men jumped out of the vehicle and opened fire on a crowd on 53rd Street in Northeast D.C., injuring multiple people and killing Makiyah on July 16.
The vehicle was later found abandoned in the Suitland area of Prince George's County.
According to court records, the victim stated she was in her car parked in her front of a home when two men in a van pulled up behind her. One man armed with a gun jumped out, walked to the driver's side door and demanded for the victim get out of the vehicle, according to officials.
When the victim refused, court records state the suspect pistol-whipped her and pulled her out.
Prince George's County police said the suspect with the gun left in the victim's Infiniti sedan while the other suspect fled the area in a blue minivan.
The victim, who is recovering after suffering a concussion during the July 1 attack, was able to pick Jones out of a photo lineup. Jones was arrested on Friday for carjacking and other related charges. He is now being held without bond in the Prince George's County Jail.
Records also show Jones has been charged with carjacking in the county twice before. He pleaded guilty in one case and was sentenced to 20 years with all but two years suspended.
It remains unclear if Jones is a person of interest in the murder of Makiyah and detectives said the investigation continues to determine if he is connected to the July 16 shooting.

FOX 5 first reported that D.C. police raided seven apartments in Southeast D.C. on Aug. 2 after identifying multiple persons of interest in the murder. Six of the apartments were in a building on Pomeroy Road and the other was inside an apartment on Good Hope Circle.
Several people were questioned at the time, but no one was arrested. Law enforcement sources told FOX 5's Paul Wagner that detectives are hoping DNA taken from the men will connect them to the crime.
A $45,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
