Slow-moving storms swamp DC region raising risk of flash flooding

WASHINGTON - Slow-moving storms continue after a near washout over the weekend left swollen waterways and flooded parts of area roads. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for most of the region until 2 a.m. Wednesday as the heavy rain storms are likely to drop several inches of precipitation.

FOX 5's Tucker Barnes says heavy downpours are likely to continue through the week as the slow moving storms move across the area. The rain struck most of the D.C. metro on Saturday and Sunday leaving behind a mess of debris. The stormy weather caused dangerous flooding conditions and triggered sinkholes.

Humid conditions that have accompanied the wet weather will also continue as temperatures remain in the 80s all week.

Emergency crews warn everyone to avoid areas that are subject to sudden flooding. Drivers should not attempt to drive across flooded roadways.
