Secret Service involved in chase that ended in wrong-way crash on I-66 in Virginia, suspect at large

ARLINGTON, Va. - Officials say they are searching for the driver of a car involved in a Secret Service-involved chase that ended in a wrong-way crash on I-66 in Virginia early Sunday morning.

Officials say at 4:35 a.m. Sunday, a Secret Service Uniformed Division Officer saw a car driving the wrong way on I Street Northwest DC.

The Secret Service officer reportedly attempted to initiate a traffic stop with the car. But they say the driver would not stop and drove the wrong way onto I-66, driving westbound in the eastbound lanes.

The suspected car, police say, then struck another car going eastbound on I-66 but then the driver of the suspect car got out and fled on foot.

According to the Secret Service, a passenger in the suspect vehicle was taken into custody and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the impacted car was also taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A source tells FOX 5 one driver was a White House military pass-holder, but Secret Service will not confirm or deny at this time.

Arlington County Police and Virginia State Police assisted on the scene, and I-66 eastbound was closed for several hours.

Investigators say the incident had no impact on White House security operations or any Secret Service protectee.

Arlington County Police is investigating the incident and says it will not be releasing the name of the suspect until charges for hit-and-run are filed.
