Second woman accuses Virginia Lieutenant Governor of sexual assault

RICHMOND, Va. (FOX 5 DC) - A second woman has accused Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax of sexually assaulting her in 2000.

According to lawyers representing Meredith Watson, Fairfax executed a "premeditated and aggressive" attack on her while they were attending Duke together in 2000.

Friday evening, Watson offered a second statement, saying that Fairfax had characterized as "nuts."

In the second statement, Watson elaborated that she had previously been raped by a basketball player. But when she brought it to the attention of the Dean, he allegedly discouraged her from disclosing it.

Watson said she told friends about the incident, including Fairfax.

According to Watson, Fairfax's assault occurred after he followed her out of a party.

When she confronted Fairfax about it, he reportedly told her, "I knew that because of what happened to you last year, you'd be too afraid to say anything."

Watson is calling on Fairfax to resign.

The first accuser - Dr. Vanessa Tyson - came out publicly on Tuesday. She said Fairfax held her head down and forced her to perform oral sex on him in his hotel room at the Democratic National Convention in Boston in 2004.

Watson's lawyers say the details of Fairfax's alleged assault on her were similar.

Watson's lawyers say she told several friends after the incident occurred, and they have written statements in support of her claim.

Shortly after a scandal erupted when photos showing Gov. Ralph Northam in blackface, Fairfax came into spotlight as the successor.

Since then, Fairfax has come under fire for two sexual assault accusations.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Mark Herring has admitted to donning blackface in the 80s.

On Friday evening, Fairfax released the following statement, saying in part that he will "not resign."

"I deny this latest unsubstantiated allegation. It is demonstrably false. I have never forced myself on anyone ever.

I demand a full investigation into these unsubstantiated and false allegations. Such an investigation will confirm my account because I am telling the truth.

I will clear my good name and I have nothing to hide. I have passed two full field background checks by the FBI and run for office in two highly contested elections with nothing like this being raised before.

It is obvious that a vicious and coordinated smear campaign is being orchestrated against me.

I will not resign."
