Ride along with the Geico Skytypers as they prepare for the Joint Base Andrews Air Show

CAMP SPRINGS, Md. - The Geico Skytypers Airshow Team is taking flight as they get ready for the Joint Base Andrews Air Show this weekend.

The world-famous flight squadron based out of Farmindale, New York, will fly their six vintage World War II-era planes in a 20-minute routine that will show off more than 20 combat tactics and maneuvers performed during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

"Most of our team members earned their wings in the military and we always pay tribute to the brave combat pilots who originally trained in our aircraft as well as those currently serving in the Armed Forces," says GEICO Skytypers Commanding Officer Larry Arken.

The aircrafts are also retrofitted to allow the pilots to release smoke that will allow them to create giant 1,000-foot-tall messages as they fly in wing-to-wing formation.

This year's air show is celebrating the Air Force's 70th birthday. The United States Air Force Thunderbirds will headline the air show and other air performers will also include the Air Force Air F-22 Demonstration Team and the Army Golden Knights Parachute Team.
