Repair projects to close 2 Metro Red Line stations until Labor Day
WASHINGTON - Officials say two Metro Red Line stations will be closed until Labor Day to complete needed repairs.
The transit agency announced that the Rhode Island Avenue and the Brookland stations will be closed beginning Saturday, July 21, and continuing through Monday, September 3 for structural repair work that began during SafeTrack.
The 45-day project will include rebuilding the outdoor deteriorated platform at the Rhode Island Avenue Station. The system's oldest outdoor station was closed on an emergency basis in 2016 after concrete fell.
Free shuttle buses will replace trains between Fort Totten and NoMa-Galludet U, with reduced service across the Red Line. Customers should expect delays.
