Prince George's County fire leaves 2 victims critical, injures 2 firefighters
TEMPLE HILLS, Md. - A fire in Prince George's County critically injured two victims and injured two firefighters on Wednesday, according to officials.
The Prince George's County Fire Department said the fire broke out at the home in the 5200 block of Lorraine Drive before 12:50 p.m.
Officials said two victims were removed from the home by firefighters and rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Two good Samaritans attempted to enter the home to rescue the victims but were forced out of the home by the heat and smoke, according to officials.
Brandon Clay told FOX 5 he was on his lunch break at his home when he heard someone banging on the door to the home next to his. Clay said he saw flames coming out of the home and tried to run over to help along with another man but it was too dangerous to enter.
"The heat had melted the door down and I tried to go in but the heat was too much. He tried the backdoor I tried the side door. I kicked the side door open," explained Clay, who described emptying a fire extinguisher on the flames in an attempt to get into the home but to no avail.
Clay told FOX 5 a woman with physical disabilities lived at the home with her son.
The fire department said two firefighters who responded to the scene were being taken to the burn unit to receive treatment for burns to their ears. They were expected to be treated and released, officials stated.
The fire was put out before 1 p.m., according to the fire department.
