7-Eleven store clerk assaulted during attempted ATM smash-and-grab in Prince George's County
MOUNT RAINIER, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - Police say a convenience store clerk was assaulted during an attempted ATM smash-and-grab robbery in Prince George's County.
Officers say the incident happened around 4 a.m. at a 7-Eleven store in the 2300 block of Varnum Street in the Mount Rainier area.
Investigators say two black males drove a truck through the front window of the store where they got out and assaulted the worker inside. They tethered the ATM and attempted to drive off but the tether snapped and they were unable to leave with the money machine.
The severity of the injuries to the worker are not known. The investigation is continuing at this time.
Last week, three men attempted to steal an ATM from a 7-Eleven store in Kettering. In March, thieves used a pickup truck to smash into a 7-Eleven in Lanham where they stole the ATM.
