Police: MS-13 gang member arrested for murder; victim stabbed over 100 times
WHEATON, Md. - Montgomery County police say an MS-13 gang member was arrested for murder after a body at a park in Wheaton over two months ago.
According to police, detectives located the male victim in a grave at Wheaton Regional Park on Sept. 5. The victim was taken to the medical examiner's office, which ruled his death a homicide by sharp force injuries. It was discovered that the victim had been stabbed more than 100 times.
Detectives are still working to identify the victim.
Police say investigators received information that the killing was committed by MS-13 gang members that included 19-year-old Miguel Angel Lopez-Abrego.
Lopez-Abrego was arrested after being found by law enforcement in North Carolina on Nov. 11, officials say. He was extradited to Montgomery County and is scheduled to appear in court for a bond review on Wednesday.
