Police investigating tips as search for missing Fairfax County teen continues

FAIRFAX, Va. - The search continues for a missing 16-year-old girl from Fairfax County.

As word has spread about the disappearance of Jholie Moussa, more people are sharing her story online. More than 24,000 people have joined a Facebook page called Bring Jholie Home and people are using the hashtag #FindJholie on Twitter.

Fairfax County police say the FBI reached out to them asking if they wanted more help searching for Moussa, who went missing nearly a week ago. They say this is not an indication the teenager is in imminent danger, but they are just adding federal resources to help find her.

Moussa's mother Syreeta Hill sat down with FOX 5 earlier this week and made an emotional plea for her daughter's safe return.

Moussa was last seen leaving her Alexandria home on Jan. 12. Her family said she left the house with no cell phone charger or overnight clothes.

Hill reported her 16-year-old daughter missing following day after she said she missed a phone call from her during the early morning hours on Jan. 13.

Since taking the case, Fairfax County police said they have received numerous tips about potential sightings of where Moussa could be. They have followed up with every tip, even ones from out of the state, but nothing has panned out yet.

They say one factor that could be hindering their investigation is Moussa's acquaintances.

"The people that we spoke to that are mainly friends of the missing girl have not been so cooperative and forthcoming with information, which hinders our investigation," said Fairfax County Police Officer Kent Bailey. "So we ask anybody if you know anything, if you see anything, to be honest with our detectives because our number one concern is we want to find her safely and bring her home. But as of right now, there are still some people that are not forthcoming with information that might be something that we need to break this case and find this girl and bring her home."

Moussa is a 10th grade student at Mount Vernon High School. She is described as 5'2" tall and weighs about 104 pounds. The 16-year-old girl has long blond braids and an infinity tattoo with her name and her twin sister's name on it. She was last seen wearing a black coat with a fur collar, plaid shirt, blue jeans and UGG boots.
