Police: Dirt bike rider was driving on wrong side of road when he struck police cruiser

Police say a dirt bike rider who was killed in a crash Friday in D.C. was driving on the wrong side of the road when he struck a marked police cruiser. The crash happened on Division Avenue at Fitch Place NE just after 1:45 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday, D.C. police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the dirt bike was traveling on the wrong side of Division Avenue at a high rate of speed when it struck the marked police cruiser.

The rider on the dirt bike was rushed to hospital in critical condition and he died from his injuries. Police identified him as 22-year-old Jeffrey Wayne Price, of northeast D.C.

The officer involved in the crash was not injured, according to police. That officer has not been identified.

Video from the scene shows a red dirt bike that appeared to crash into the front passenger door of the police cruiser. The front passenger door had significant damage and the airbags were deployed.
