Woman dead after gas station pump fire in Northeast, DC
WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - Officials say a woman is dead after being found near a gas station pump that was on fire early Wednesday morning in Northeast, D.C.
D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Vito Maggiolo told FOX 5 that crews arrived to the gas station on 21 Street and Benning Road around 5:30 a.m. and were able to quickly extinguish a gas pump that was found on fire.
Maggiolo said as they extinguished the fire crews found the body of 25-year-old Blessing Hayes of Northeast D.C. adjacent to the gas pump. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Maggiolo said the nature and circumstance of the fire and of the woman's death are under investigation.
There is no indication at this time as to what may have caused the fire. Maggiolo told FOX 5 that there does not appear to be a vehicle involved. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Drivers can expect roads in the area to be impacted by the police investigation.
