Montgomery Co. teen found dead after police say he was last seen leaving 'underage drinking party'

A Montgomery County teen who was found dead in a wooded area in Bethesda Sunday, was reportedly last seen at a party Saturday night, where police say there was underage drinking.

Navid Sepehri, a 17-year-old senior at Walt Whitman High School, allegedly walked away on his own from what police are now investigating as an "underage drinking party." He was found dead 18 hours later in a wooded ravine.

According to a source close to the family and several of the teen's friends, Sepehri may have been drinking Saturday night, and they say when police showed up at the house, many of the people at the party scattered.

The 17-year-old was last seen by friends on Bannockburn Drive, where they say they offered to get him an Uber but he declined.

The ravine where his body was found is approximately seven blocks from the party on Elgin Lane.

An anonymous person called police to report the party:

Police dispatcher:"Yes sir 6527 Elgin Lane -- 6527 Elgin Lane caller is anonymous says there is an underage drinking party at this address. It's loud, there is a bonfire in the backyard, there is also people inside and outside on the front lawn says there is a large group and says it is underage."

FOX 5 went to the address on Elgin Lane Monday afternoon but no one came to the door. It's unclear who owns the home, but a vehicle with a diplomatic tag was parked outside.

A source close to the family who asked not to be identified, says the teen was not reported missing by the family, but by a neighbor Sunday afternoon.

The source says Sepehri's phone last pinged in the area of the Bannockburn swim club, where his body was eventually found around 5 p.m. Sunday.

Many of the Whitman students who showed up at the swim club Monday morning said the 17-year-old was very popular at school and well-liked.

There were tears and hugs as the teen's friends mourned his loss. Students placed candles spelling out their friend's name in a memorial.
