Maryland native loses right eye in Las Vegas shooting
GAMBRILLS, Md. - A woman who grew up in Anne Arundel County in Maryland was one of the people injured in the mass shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday night.
Tina Frost, a 2008 graduate of Arundel High School in Gambrills, was wounded during the shooting and lost her right eye after undergoing surgery Monday morning, according to a GoFundMe page created for Frost.
Frost is in the intensive care unit and in a coma needing assistance of a ventilator to breathe.
"Tina is out of surgery and her vitals are stable," according to a message from Frost's mother posted on the GoFundMe page. "They removed her right eye, where the bullet was lodged, and there is an implant there now to keep the space open. She has sight in her left eye but will never see from the right again. They took out a bone from her forehead to allow the brain room to swell, that will stay out for a few months. She's in a coma and on a ventilator, she cannot breathe on her own. She's critically stable in ICU for at least a week. Over the next few days, they're going to see how she responds to simulation, but until then, we won't know how bad the brain damage is."
Frost was on an all-county player on the school's soccer team at Arundel, according to the Arundel High School Facebook page.
Authorities said at least 59 people have died and 527 injured after a gunman sprayed gunfire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay casino hotel.
The GoFundMe page has raised over $40,000 as of Monday night to help cover expenses for Frost's care. To donate, click here.
