Man wounded inside lobby of FOX 5 building was previously charged with murder, court documents say
WASHINGTON - FOX 5 has learned that the suspect wounded by an armed security guard after he broke through a locked entrance of the building has a history of contacting staff members at FOX 5.
Police say 38-year-old George Odemns forcibly entered the front lobby of the building on Wisconsin Avenue in Northwest D.C. Monday afternoon.
Surveillance video showed the suspect kicking through the glass doors to get into the lobby. The unarmed man was confronted by two armed security guards - one of which ended up shooting him once in the chest.
Odemns was known to police and some employees of FOX 5 after he previously sent bizarre and rambling emails to FOX 5 staff members. He has also sued FOX 5, Fox News, the White House, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, D.C. police and several others.
Court records show Odemns was charged with murder in 2002, but the case was dismissed.
Odemns was seen being placed into an ambulance in a stretcher where he was transported to the hospital. He is in critical, but stable condition, according to police.
Police arrested and charged the 38-year-old suspect with second-degree burglary.
No FOX 5 employees were injured during the incident and were safe after the shooting.
