Man sentenced to 65-years for killing Secret Service officer in robbery, 15-year-old at Metro stop

WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - A D.C. man who was found guilty of killing an off-duty Secret Service officer and a 15-year-old boy at a Metro station in separate incidents during a four-month span several years ago was sentenced to over six decades in prison.

In court on Friday, 20-year-old Maurice Bellamy, was given a 30-year sentence for the murder of Arthur Baldwin Jr. and a 35-year sentence for the killing of Davonte Washington. The two sentences for a total of 65 years are to be served consecutively.

Bellamy was convicted of murdering Baldwin Jr. during a robbery on Dec. 15, 2015. Bellamy and two accomplices ambushed Baldwin while he was waiting for a friend in his car that was parked in the 4700 block of First Street in Southwest D.C. in the middle of the afternoon. After shooting Baldwin, Bellamy and his two accomplices stole Baldwin's wallet, cellphone and iPad. Baldwin died at the hospital.

Bellamy was also found guilty in the killing of Davonte Washington who was killed more than three months after Baldwin, Jr. on the day before Easter on March 26, 2016 at the Deanwood Metro station. The teenage victim was with his mother and two younger sisters waiting for a Metro train when prosecutors say Bellamy "mistakenly believed Davonte was 'mugging' on him." Because of this, Bellamy shot Washington twice in the chest at close range with a .38-caliber revolver. The killing was captured on Metro surveillance video. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, Washington was on his way to get his haircut for Easter. He was a ninth grade student at Largo High School.

Bellamy was arrested two days later. Investigators discovered that the same gun was used in both killings.
