Man found dead in backyard after catching fire in Silver Spring, officials say
SILVER SPRING, Md. - Authorities are investigating the death of a man outside of a single-family home in Silver Spring.
Police say they responded to the 1200 block of Briggs Chaney Road near Lear Lane at around 8 p.m. Thursday after receiving a call from the victim's family members.
"An adult male was found deceased on scene there so we are doing a full investigation at this time to find out what happened," said Montgomery County Police Capt. David Falcinelli.
Police say the victim was doing a controlled burn in his backyard, which he did often, when he somehow caught on fire in the rear of the home. He was pronounced dead at scene.
According to police, the victim was found in the bushes and was believed to be elderly.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the man's death. They do not believe it is suspicious.
