On Friday, D.C. police arrested 21-year-old Michael Leonard Jones of Bladensburg, Maryland, and charged him with first-degree murder while armed for the slaying of Omar Rodgers.

The 25-year-old victim was found shot inside a vehicle in the 2200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue after officers were flagged down on Good Hope Road at around 3:50 a.m. on Oct. 8., police say. Rodgers was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Rodgers' death came several hours after his younger brother, Sean Savoy, a freshman wide receiver at Virginia Tech, played the best game of his college career in a victory over Boston College. The performance earned Savoy ACC Rookie of the Week honors.

Savoy grew up in the District and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School where he was a two-time All-Met selection.
