Man arrested for murder of Montgomery County high school student
HYATTSVILLE, Md. - Prince George's County police have arrested a 22-year-old man for the deadly shooting of a 16-year-old Montgomery County high school student last month.
Police said Tyrell McArthur, of Temple Hills, has been charged with first- and second-degree murder of Kevin Wilson Jr.
Wilson was killed after he was found shot several times in a parking lot in the 6700 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Hyattsville on Aug. 6.
Police identified McArthur as a suspect in the case along with 22-year-old Rayshawn Williams, who remains at-large. Officials said last month that detectives were working to identify a third suspect in the killing.
Wilson was a rising junior student at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring. He was also a member of the Maryland Seahawks youth football team.
"He played on our 2016 national championship team where he was the captain with two other players," said his former coach Jarvis Thomas. "Just the leadership that he had, the overall presence that he had, when he spoke people listened. He commanded the room when he came into the room and he was a leader. Just his overall athleticism - he was pretty special on that football field."
McArthur is being held without bond, police said.
