Elderly woman dies after Northwest fire
WASHINGTON - An elderly woman is dead after a fire on North Capitol Street in Northwest D.C. on Tuesday night.
FOX 5 has learned that the closest ladder truck to the scene had recently been moved to a station across the Anacostia River due to ongoing equipment problems.
D.C. fire crews responded to the scene in the 1800 block around 7:15 p.m.
When they arrived, firefighters were able to rescue the woman - who was reportedly in her 90s - but she did not survive her injuries.
The victim has not been identified.
Crews are still on the scene trying to determine what caused the fire.
