DC good Samaritan caught on camera returning lost wallet

A D.C. woman is thankful a good Samaritan returned her lost wallet Thursday morning.

Katie Egger Makris said she was in a rush to get out the door Thursday morning and her wallet must have fallen out of her bag in the middle of the road.

Makris received an alert from her doorbell camera while she was setting up for an exercise class at about 6 a.m.

"I clicked over and thought it was a little weird for a delivery that early, but figured maybe someone got my mail or whatever," Makris wrote on Facebook.

Makris said she is counting her blessings after what she saw next.

"This guy was nice enough to stop his van, clearly checked the address on the ID and returned it under our mat. Anyone who lives in DC knows this is pretty much unheard of," she wrote. "You drop a wallet, you lose a wallet, and you usually lose everything in your accounts if you're not quick, too."

Makris said the majority of doorbell camera videos posted around the holidays consist of package thefts or break-ins. She was happy to share a "positive" doorbell camera video.

"Random Dallas fan in the plaid with the white van: thank you. You're what's right in the world," she wrote.

The good Samaritan was identified, but his family told FOX 5 he'd like to remain anonymous.
