DC police officer killed in car crash with tractor trailer in Howard County
CLARKSVILLE, Md. - A D.C. police officer was killed in a fatal crash in Howard County Monday morning, police say.
Howard County police say 31-year-old Barry Martin Eastman, of Ellicott City, Maryland, was driving a 2015 Kia Forte heading north on Route 32 in Clarksville at around 8 a.m. when he crossed the double yellow lines and crashed into tractor trailer traveling in the opposite direction.
Eastman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer, 53-year-old Ira Goldberg, was not injured in the collision.
D.C. police said in a statement:
"It is with great sadness that we inform you, a member of the MPD family passed away in a car accident this morning in Howard County.
"Barry Eastman, a four year veteran of the force, was assigned to the Third District.
"Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers."
Route 32 was temporarily closed after the crash, but later reopened in both directions.
