DC police make murder arrest in 2004 cold case
WASHINGTON - D.C. police have made a murder arrest in a cold case that dates back to 2004.
On Sept. 6, 2004, Kendra Smith was shot by someone who opened fire at the car she was sitting in outside her home on D Street in Southeast D.C. The 23-year-old mother died from her injuries the following day, police say.
Smith's mother, sister and young daughter were inside their house when the gunfire rang out.
Fourteen years later, police say they have arrested 47-year-old Tony Aiken on Thursday and charged him with second-degree murder while armed.
Smith went to Banneker High School in D.C. and attended Temple University in Philadelphia.
FOX 5's Paul Wagner took a look at this murder case last year when it remained unsolved. Watch his "Rewind To The Crime" on Kendra Smith above in the video player.
