Crews still working at scene of massive Prince William County sinkhole

Crews are still on the scene of a massive sinkhole in Prince William County that swallowed up a car on Thursday evening.

On Friday, the car was lifted out of the hole and removed, but Princedale Drive in Woodbridge remains closed.

Experts say the record amount of rain is likely the reason the roadway over the creek collapsed.

The spectacle brought dozens of neighbors to watch - like Marleen Brumbaugh, who lives in the neighborhood.

"It's crazy, we bought our house in 1984 and nothing like this has ever happened on this road," Brumbaugh said.

The breach in roadway opened up just before 7 p.m.

The sinkhole was accompanied by buckling concrete across the roadway.

The same rain that purportedly prompted the sinkhole could also delay repairs.

Drivers and curiosity seekers are asked to avoid the area. The roadway could be closed for up to two weeks.
