Community mourns shooting death of Southeast DC teen
WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - A community is mourning after a teenage boy was gunned down in a parking lot on Wheeler Road in Southeast D.C. on Sunday.
Several other people were injured in the shooting - including a nine-year-old girl.
Fifteen-year-old Maurice Scott attended Somerset Prep in D.C., and a teacher at the school shared an emotional post about his death.
Investigators say Scott was shot in the head outside of Holiday Liquors - he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police Chief Peter Newsham said a car pulled up to the scene, and a gunman emerged with a rifle - or long gun - and opened fire.
The other victims - two women and the young girl - are expected to survive.
