Body found inside burning car in Southeast DC
WASHINGTON - Police are investigating a body found inside of a burning car in Southeast D.C.
Responding officers found the vehicle on fire at around 7:21 p.m. in the 700 block of Ridge Road near G Street in an alley behind a row of houses. After the fire was put out, authorities found the body of a woman inside the car suffering from several gunshot wounds.
A woman who was visiting family in the neighborhood told FOX 5 she heard several gunshots and then a big explosion before witnessing the car in flames.
The burned vehicle appeared to be a later-model Lexus.
The victim was transported to the medical examiner's office. Authorities have not identified her at this time.
Homicide investigators along with D.C. fire investigators were seen at the scene Thursday to investigate the incident.
